Seccionists Attacks: "We won't dialogue with criminals"- Bawumia declares.
The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has clarified that agitators for separation of parts of the Volta region as a unique state is a figment of their imagination and that some actors are taking advantage of the situation to perpetuate criminality.

Speaking on Ekosiisen on Asempa FM today, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that the progenitors of this agenda only want to twist history for their parochial interest as there’s only one Ghana and the borders of the country was determined by the plebiscite of 9th May, 1956.

“Its a figment, Western Togoland doesn’t exist. The borders of Ghana was determined when parliament chose a unitary state over federalist state following the plebiscite.”

Quizzed on whether the government would heed to calls to dialogue with the secessionists, Dr. Bawumia said “Dialogue with who? These criminals...? What we need is to come together as one people and support the security forces to deal with the criminals”

He added that contrary to claims that security forces have been reactive rather than proactive in stopping the recent attacks by the group, Dr. Bawumia said the police have actually foiled many attempts which could have been worse than what has been seen.
